How to stitch a baby's frock (Zabala)?

How to stitch a baby's frock (Zabala)?

Selection of cloth, size & initial folds:
Step1: Select a cloth of your choice. If you want overall dimension of 20in x 30 in then you need to have cloth of actual dimension: Length-20 in + 1 in extra x Width 30 in + 5 in extra).
Step2: First fold the cloth in middle of the length (Size after first fold: 10 in + 0.5 in extra x 30 in + 5 in extra).
Step3: Fold cloth in the middle of the width (Size after 2nd fold: 10 in + 0.5 in extra x 15 in + 2.5 in extra)
Step4Next step is marking for stitching baby's frock.

    Marking on the folded cloth:
I    Step1: If our A (measure -shoulder to knee) is 10 in then add 1/2 in extra while marking on the cloth.
     Step2: Next mark 10 in + 1/2 in extra (of measure A )
Step3: If our B (measure-chest) is of 15 inches then by adding 5 inches we get 20 inches. So the breadth of our cloth will be 20 inch.
     Step4: For arm we will divide its (chest's) measure with 5. C = 15/5, C=3 in. For D we will divide the measure of A with 2 and hence D = 10/2, D = 5 in.
Step5: Take actual measurement of front neck size (E) and back neck size (F). Basically E & F dimensions are based on individual's comfort & choice.

Please refer the below diagram for marking & cutting:

  •     A :- Measure of shoulder to knee + take 1/2 inch extra (for the folding
  •     B :- Measure of chest and 5 inches extra
  •     C :- Measure of arm and 5 inches extra
  •     D :- Half of the measure (of A )
  •     E :- Measure of the frontier neck
  •     F :- Measure of backside neck
  Cutting of the cloth:
New users can make use of paper instead of cloth for sample cutting purpose in order to avoid cutting from wrong side.
Step1: Please review and check all of above steps.
Step2: Cut the cloth as indicated in figure
Step3: After cutting the cloth it is ready to get stitched.

    Stitching:
Step1: For stitching fold neck sides (1/4 in) and stitch
Step2: Fold arm side (1/4 in) and stitch
Step3: Fold bottom of the frock and stitch
    Step4: Now join the sides.

Congratulations: Now, your baby's frock is ready.
